As I
mentioned I was saved at a very young age. I was taught to read
my Bible and pray. But until I got filled with the Holy Spirit,
I was pretty much doing both as obedience. To my parents and to
God. If you asked me if I loved God, I knew that I did, even
though I didn't have as much knowledge I needed understand just
how big He was and how much of a sacrifice it was for Him to
send His son to earth to die for us. I know that I was moved by
it enough to ask Jesus into my heart and to witness to those
around me as to salvation and heaven. But as limited as I was in
my understanding, there was so much that I didn't have answers
for.
I remember the day that I got filled with the Holy Spirit. It
was like a light turned on. Reading the Word became alive and
new each time. Scriptures that I had read many times in my life
suddenly took on more meaning and power. I remember saying to
myself "Was that in my Bible all this time?" What was the
difference? Revelation Knowledge! By opening up my heart and
life to the Holy Spirit, it allowed him to do his work in me and
through me. It seemed like I had a brand new book in my hands
that I was just beginning to understand. God started opening the
scriptures to me through his spirit.
Mark 4:22
22 For there is nothing that is hidden that won’t be disclosed,
and there is no secret that won’t be brought out into the light!
The scriptures were there, but hidden in plain sight, waiting
for me to discover just how wonderful God's word is and what it
has for us to live our daily lives.
1 Peter 1
12 God revealed to the prophets that their ministry was not for
their own benefit but for yours. And now, you have heard these
things from the evangelists who preached the gospel to you
through the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—the gospel
containing wonderful mysteries that even the angels long to get
a glimpse of.
God's word is precious and abundant in blessing. So much that
the Angels wish that they could look into it and understand what
we can through the Holy Spirit. Can you imagine that we can know
things that Angels don't understand? So why do we sit in
darkness, not searching to see exactly what God's word is saying
to us? Because that is what we are doing if we don't study God's
word, with the guidance of the Spirit of God.
My mother was a very wonderful Christian, but she never received
the baptism of the Holy Spirit. She said something to me once
that surprised and shocked me. She said that she was afraid to
learn more of what the Bible had to say, like I was learning,
because she didn't want to be held responsible for it. As nicely
as I could, I said, but you will be held responsible, because
you have a Bible. Despite what the world says, ignorance is not
bliss. The Bible says in Hosea
Hosea 4:6
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you
have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being
priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I
also will forget your children
Just because you don't know what the Word says, it does not mean
that you are protected or not held responsible for that lack of
knowledge. God gave His Word to be a help to us. To teach us how
to live and survive in this world. It is vital that you search
the Word for whatever your need is and then ask God to give you
revelation knowledge of how to apply it to your life.
How many times have you talked to Christians, that seem to have
so little knowledge of the Word of God it is hard to believe
they are actually believers. They know so little of what Jesus
has done for them, you wonder if they have ever read the Bible.
From my own experience, I know that from the time I was a small
child and accepted Jesus into my heart, that I heard lots of
Bible stories, read my Bible and memorized lots of Bible verses
but was never taught just exactly what Jesus did for us on that
cross. I knew I was saved and going to Heaven, but that was it.
I never fully understood the scriptures I was reading. It was
not until I was filled with the Holy Spirit that I finally
started to see exactly what Jesus' sacrifice at Calvary had
accomplished so that I could live a life that promised me
everything I would ever need, including health and my every need
being supplied.
A child can go to school and have "Knowledge" stuffed into his
head all day, but until he or she gets an understanding of what
is being taught, will it not be benefical to them. It will just
be a lot of words that mean nothing to them. It takes a good
teacher to help a student to understand what they are being
told.
Thank God we have the best teacher in the universe, The Holy
Spirit, to teach us and help us to understand what the Word of
God is saying and how it applies to us. But we have to ask Him
to help us. If we truly are hungry for the Word and desire to
understand it, He will be there to help us.
Romans 8:25-27
25 So because our hope is set on what is yet to be seen, we
patiently keep on waiting for its fulfillment. 26 And in a
similar way, the Holy Spirit takes hold of us in our human
frailty to empower us in our weakness. For example, at times we
don’t even know how to pray, or know the best things to ask for.
But the Holy Spirit rises up within us to super-intercede on our
behalf, pleading to God with emotional sighs too deep for words.
27 God, the searcher of the heart, knows fully our longings, yet
he also understands the desires of the Spirit, because the Holy
Spirit passionately pleads before God for us, his holy ones, in
perfect harmony with God’s plan and our destiny.
James 1:5-8
The Passion Translation
5 And if anyone longs to be wise, ask God for wisdom and he will
give it! He won’t see your lack of wisdom as an opportunity to
scold you over your failures but he will overwhelm your failures
with his generous grace. 6 Just make sure you ask empowered by
confident faith without doubting that you will receive. For the
ambivalent person believes one minute and doubts the next. Being
undecided makes you become like the rough seas driven and tossed
by the wind. You’re up one minute and tossed down the next. 7–8
When you are half-hearted and wavering it leaves you unstable.
Can you really expect to receive anything from the Lord when
you’re in that condition?
Revelation knowledge is a great gift...available to all
Christians. But we need to hunger first for the Word and then be
earnest in our desire to understand it...and we will receive.
