Without A Vision the People Perish

Lesson 3

Psalm 23

A Psalm of David.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anoints my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Jehovah Rohi - The Lord is My Shepherd

Why do sheep need a shepherd? Because sheep have no sense of what they should eat, or where they should go, they must be led. Why must Jesus be our Shepherd in order for us to fulfill our vision?

You have not chosen Him, He has chosen you

He purchased you

He calls you by name

He makes you His own

He cares for you

He intercedes for you

There is no animal better taken care of then sheep with a good shepherd.

Jesus gave his life for the sheep

Jehovah Shalom - Our Peace

He leads me by the still waters. He refreshes and restores

If we are knocked down He gets us back on our feet

Jehovah Tsidkenu - Our Righteousness

Sheep get in a rut. They wander off the path and get lost.

He leads them into paths of righteousness.

Though we walk through the valley of death we fear no evil.

God will take us to the mountains.

Jehovah Nissi - Lord our Victory

Jehovah Shammah - The Lord is with you

The rod was used to kill attacking enemies and chasten and line up the sheep

The Word is a two edged sword

The staff is for comfort, pull back into the fold by the Holy Spirit

He knows where to feed us even in the presence of our enemies

Oil is for protection from harm for the sheep. Anoints our head with oil for protection against the attacks on our mind. My cup runs over

The Lord is My Shepherd

Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever

In the presence of God nothing shall separate me from the love of God.

God promoted David to shepherd over the whole flock of Isreal

The false shepherd will destroy the sheep. He does not care for his flock or what happens to them. He will kill you if he can.

Three kinds of Sheep

Sheep outside the fold, sick hungry and thirsty

Sheep in the fold, but gone astray

Sheep in the fold that are safe and secure

We need to be sheep that keep our eyes on the Lord and have his vision for our lives. He is our Shepherd. He cares for the sheep and would never lead us astray. He will even go after us if we get away from the vision and will bring us back into the fold.

Proverbs 29:18

Where there is no vision, the people perish:

but he that keeps the law, happy is he.

A person that has vision has power. Anyone without vision, has no power

Vision gives your aim, purpose and a goal to your life. It helps you to clarify and focus. Without it, you will be torn down and destroyed
