Deep Places In God

Lesson 3

Psalm 42

In today’s lesson I want to show that if we can get the deep things of God in our heart, it will come out our mouth. And also, as we launch out into the deep, we will receive blessings we cannot contain.

Psalm 92:5

O LORD, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep

Even the thoughts of God are deep. We can read the word of God and just see words. Until it is revealed to us by the Holy Spirit, they will mean nothing to us. But with the Holy Spirit’s help we will see just how deep the word of God is. For the scriptures are the thoughts of God. If we begin to learn the scriptures, we will know the thoughts of God.

He is the one that spoke to the ones that wrote the Bible and told them what to write. His Holy Spirit rested on them as they penned the words for us to read. So it is the same Holy Spirit that must reveal them to us. Without Him as our teacher and guide, we will never know the thoughts and mind of God, and therefore never enter into the deep things of God.

Proverbs 20:5

Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

We can read, but, we may not necessarily understand. The Holy Spirit can put it deep in your spirit, but you need to draw it out. We need to Speak the word of God to make it real to us and others. I believe that with practice, comes understanding. To have something in your heart does not mean you understand how it works.

Apply this to learning to drive a car. We can read all the right books. Take the written test. But do we know how to drive? Can we just get behind the wheel and take off. No. We need to practice and prove it works. We will make mistakes, and learn from them and eventually, we will be a good driver.

Well the same applies to the word of God. The word is true, no matter what, but until we put it into practice, it will do nothing for us to “Know” it. We need to apply it to our lives. God tells us to Prove Him.

Mal. 3:10

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open to you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, says the LORD of hosts.

Here He is talking about tithing…but it works for every part of His Word. He knows that His Word will stand the test. So once you learn the Word…put it to the test! It will work every time!

Proverbs 18:4

The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

Once the word of God has been put to practice in your life, you will be able to speak with confidence and with depth that people will be awed at your wisdom. Out of your belly will flow rivers of living water. When you know that you know what God’s Word says, nothing will be able to shake you, because you have proved it works in your life.

If you say that you believe God’s word, but have never actually put it to practice in your life, you are like the man that built his house on sand. It will collapse. Not because the word is not true, but because you do not have a good foundation of it in your life. The “What Ifs” and the “Buts” will shake you. Like the good seed on poor ground, you have no root and will easily be plucked up. The doubts will come in and soon you will be saying “Yeah But” or “What if” and the word will not work for you.

Take it a step at a time. Test God’s word on small things if you need to. Believe for your needs for the day and go from there. You will see that the Word works!

Ezekiel 32:14

Then will I make their waters deep, and cause their rivers to run like oil, says the Lord GOD.

I want my waters to run deep. I want people to hear my words and know that I believe what I say. I want the Holy Spirit to flow in me like oil. Rivers of Living Water. The oil of the Holy Spirit!

Luke 5:4-6

Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

This is such a wonderful story of how Jesus asked his disciples to extend themselves beyond what they “Knew” to be fact. He wanted them to go past what they knew and obey him. He told them to launch out into the deep and they would receive a blessing.

They could have disobeyed, and they would have missed it. God wants us to launch out into the deep. He wants us to stretch our faith to the limits and do as he says….no matter how silly and fruitless it may seem. He doesn’t always ask us to do things that make sense. Sometimes, it may seem ridiculous. But if we do it, we will not only be obedient to him, but he will bless us beyond what we could ask or think.

Ephesians 3:20

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,
